Certification has become a “big business” with literally hundreds of certification boards offering to evaluate, rate, and promote your products – for a price. Certifiers will be happy to rate products as natural, organic, cruelty-free, free from harmful chemicals, good for the environment, and many more such things – whatever is currently fashionable!

Paul Penders products from the very beginning forty years ago have always been made from the finest natural organic herbal ingredients – so we have often chosen not to support these certification agencies.

Cruelty to animals is an issue dear to my heart. We have gone one step further than most cosmetics and personal care companies: we do not use any products that come from animals. That is already certified by Jakim, the leader and the most prominent in the world, for this kind of certification.

At the urging of some vegan friends, we have decided it would be good to be able to share this choice publicly. Paul Penders products are suitable even for the most conscientious vegan customer! But how do we prove it?

One of the few certification agencies I feel I can fully embrace is the non-profit American Vegetarian Association (AVA). They are dedicated to the “preservation, propagation, and distribution of vegetarian ideas and products.” Their widely recognized certification program enables vegetarian-minded people to make accurate choices, certain that the manufacturer’s claims are truthful.

With a distinguished advisory board made up of doctors, environmental scientists, nutritionists, chefs, and experts on the manufacturing processes involved in taking naturally grown ingredients from farm to home, the AVA is truly an impressive organization with the highest ethical standards of integrity.

Once a product is submitted to the AVA for consideration, they carefully scrutinize every element to be sure it meet the standards for either vegetarian (dairy and eggs allowed) or vegan (no animal products) certification. Paul Penders products are strictly vegan.

AVA is now in the process of evaluation of the Paul Penders line. In future blogs, I’ll tell you more about how and why we can proudly say that our natural herbal products are not only Halal-certified but soon to be vegan-certified as well!
