An Incredible Contest With Unique R&D Opportunities

The famous, world-known Iron Man contest may take place again this year in Langkawi. When it happens, Paul Penders Co sponsors again 57 year old New Zealander Leslie McMillan.
Leslie will be for up to 13 hours being exposed to torture under a burning tropical sun. And believe me, no peanuts to undergo such harsh tropical sun conditions hitting your body when one is in a survival mode during this race with the great obstructions.
The rainforest island of Langkawi Geopark in Malaysia is located 5 degrees north of the equator with weather temperatures at this time of the year varying from 30 to 35 degrees C or 100 degrees F – that during the entire day!
It is obvious that a whole day in the sun means an enormous attack on the skin. Sunburn and dry skin would be inevitable if adequate protection would not be taken very serious.
Therefore a wonderful opportunity for Paul Penders to perform R&D tests during this race. Where in the world to find better conditions to measure efficacy of our products? To know for sure how far our natural products can go in protecting skin and hair in a grueling sun?
Any R&D scientist would dream to test his products this way. No lab tests in artificial conditions with computers for performance tests. No, this is the real thing in hot sun and salt seawater; thus extensive scalp and hair protection is a must.

What Paul Penders products will be used during the race, as well during training sessions prior to the race?

Leslie, as well as us, were quite satisfied with the protecting effects that our products offered last time. Think about this… Just a 30-minute walk in the burning sun here in Malaysia will make one totally wet and exhausted. So imagine the effect on the body when one is for 13 hours constantly swimming, biking and running?

Finishing…!! Yvonne, R&D manager of Paul Penders brings flowers to an exhausted Iron Man

Of course, only Leslie can share the details of the experience of fighting the elements. This will be covered in an exclusive interview after the race. With over 700 Iron Man competing, Leslie may not win but for sure will be one of the best protected contestants when it comes to professional natural skin and hair care products.
Note: Each Langkawi Iron Man Race receives some 700 participants from up to 40 countries with over 1,500 volunteers helping out.

Paul Penders Ceramide Recovery Lipo A, C & E

I have been using this Paul Penders serum product for several days now and am really impressed with it. The texture is like silk when applied to the skin and you only need 2-3 drops. It contains so many goodies for the skin and gives back that lovely bloom that the passing years diminish. I have been applying it night and morning under moisturizer. It takes your moisturizer to a whole new level of efficacy. It’s especially good for dry mature skin making it feel comfortable and healthy. It comes in a dropper bottle so is very easy to dispense just 2 or 3 drops. The texture of this product is sublime, like liquid velvet, and such a pleasure to use, it even feels like your skin is improving as you are applying it as it feels supple and smooth. I take a couple of minutes to massage it in well. It sinks in leaving no greasy feel. This is what a serum should feel like and be such a joy to apply.
Gone are the days when I just use a moisturizer, to me now serums are a must to boost the moisturizer and get additional benefits. I like layering products as well, each layer providing a different treatment which can then work away doing its own thing on my skin whilst I get on with my life.
More and more I am moving to natural organic products because I don’t want to bombard my skin constantly with chemicals that are absorbed into the body. It makes sense to use the power that nature provides.
This product came from The Natural Skincare Company and the owner, Amanda, is passionate about her products and only picks the ones she personally likes and uses on her own skin. What better recommendation? This lady and I agree on our passion for skincare. This is what she says about this Paul Penders serum:
An extraordinary combination of fine herbs infused in botanical oils. Powerful vitamins fight free radical damage. Helps enhance hydration and re-texturise skin’s surface for a smoother appearance and immediate firming effect. Apply sparingly. Only a few drops in the morning and evening before applying moisturizer. For extra dry and sensitive skin use more liberally.

About Me

My working life was spent as Personnel Officer for a national company based in London. These days I have a skincare business and this Blog as well as other projects. I was a Host on the Daily Mail Beauty & Fashion forums for about 6 years. I have been involved in Product Evaluation, Color Analysis, makeovers, bridal & special occasion makeup and giving talks to ladies groups.

Welcome along!
I like this Blog to read a little like a magazine that you can dip into at will and find something of interest to read. There will be product reviews but much more……
I am sometimes sent samples for review by companies and I will always give my honest opinion about how I feel about the product, the companies understand this. I am never paid to review any item as I feel that would compromise my integrity

Paul Penders Products at a major show in INTERBEAUTY & BIOSTYL Slovakia!

For most Americans and Asians, even people in Western Europe as well, when they hear the word: East Europe, they get an image at mind from “the cold war”. Many can’t keep track of these new countries popping-up “almost everywhere”. Even less they know where these new countries are located on the world map!
When you read Paul’s blog story about his visit in Prague, the Czech Republic you understand that East Europe becomes fast part of the entire world. When he visited that truly beautiful country for the first time, he expected to see old, gray buildings and people not always happy and bad service in stores. How wrong he was!
East-Europe today experiences progress. People become part of the industrial and competitive world (whether always liked or not 🙂 ) but what Paul reported from few east-European cities was mindboggling. Few things that went wrong 50 years ago in the west certainly maybe go right in east-Europe today.
Last month, Juraj & Lucia, active distributors for Paul Penders products in Slovakia presented our natural cosmetics at “INTERBEAUTY & BIOSTYL”. For years a traditional event that is open to the beauty industry and public. People in east-Europe value natural cosmetics and the shows were successful.

Lucia explains the Paul Penders products to a customer

Juraj & Lucia provides some insights about the show:
“This exhibition called “BIOSTYL” is aimed for new natural organic foods and cosmetics business. It is the biggest event of its kind in Slovakia. Yet the show was running parallel with another, larger exhibition, called: “INTERBEAUTY”. Therefore there were many more people attending both shows. Lots of people now were introduced to natural organic cosmetics who otherwise would not have seen them if they were visiting only the INTERBEAUTY show. A good example of what cooperation brings!
We put a special “Paul Penders Show Promotion” together that got quite some attention. Therefore sales were very good. Maybe because of our cold climates, the most favorite products were the Paul Penders “AM” and “PM” Moisturizers. Also the Paul Penders Ceramide Recovery Lipo A, C & E was doing extremely well.

Interesting was to hear that people were rather surprised that Paul’s products, although developed in the US, now are produced in the Malaysian rainforest. They really appreciated the pure and unique smell of the essential oils in his products. They found them really different than those they are used to here in east-Europe.
Besides consumers we also met with more of natural cosmetics retailers. We are happy to report that continuously more and more stores become familiar with Paul Penders cosmetics, which for sure will bring some new sales opportunities as well”.
Congratulations to Juraj & Lucia for all their efforts in getting Paul Penders Natural Organic Cosmetics known in Slovakia as well!

Stress & your skin

Many physical changes are associated with long-term stress which leads to intense effects on your skin.

Whenever one is under stress, hormones will be released which cause blood vessels to constrict and lead to poor circulation. Due to decrease of blood supply to the skin, can leave it feeling dry and flaky.

Besides that, one breathing alters will become quicker and shallower. This will cause the amount of oxygen to your skin to be reduced. If stress is long-lasting, you may find that your skin becomes pasty or gray and you will be having tension lines around forehead, eyes and mouth.

Skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis and rashes although is not initially caused by stress, can worsen when you are under stress. And some people find that they break out in spots when they are stressed.

Although it is hard to get rid of all the stress we have, there are a few techniques that can help us to cope with stress more effectively.

  • Learn how to say no – Understand own limits and stick to them or when it is not necessary, you don’t have to do it.
  • Time management – If you are trying to do too many things in a time, not good. Try to arrange /divide the time well for each task.
  • Make time for yourself – do something that will bring joy to you. For example, reading, taking a walk in the park, relaxing while listening to music and many more.
  • Have enough sleep
  • Have a massage to relax tense muscle

And many techniques out there that is suitable for us. However, remember to choose a healthy way to release your stress.

We at Paul Penders have an excellent product that releases stress on the skin.

How Paul Penders Products Help an Iron Man

Leslie McMillan – sponsored by Paul Penders

On Saturday, February 27, the annual Langkawi Ironman contest takes place, and – as last year – Paul Penders are sponsoring the now 55 years old New Zealander Leslie McMillan.
We had a Pre-Race interview with Leslie two days ago – it can be read here – but today we will concentrate more on what it means and involves being a sponsor for an Iron Man.
13 hours, 17 minutes, and 22 seconds. This was the time Leslie McMillan was exposed to the burning tropical sun during last years Langkawi Ironman contest.
And it IS tropical sun. Langkawi, in Malaysia, is located only 5 degrees north of Equator. The weather forecast for Saturday’s race promises a sunny day, with temperatures very constant at 30 degrees (86 F) during all day.

    Herbal Sunscreen SPF22

It is obvious that a whole day in the sun means an enormous skin exposure to the sun. Sunburns and dry skin would be the inevitable result, was protection not used.
So, to protect against the grueling sun, Paul Penders Herbal Sunscreen SPF22 is applied to Leslie’s face, arms, hands, and legs before the race.
Before applying the Herbal Sunscreen SPF 22, a foundation of Paul Penders Aloe & Lavender A.M. Moisturizer is used on all skin areas. This is to preserve the skins natural moisture level.
Since the contest starts with a 3.9 km (2.4 mile) swim in salty water, the hair is an important thing to care for as well.

    Time-Release Jasmine Shampoo

Before and after the race, Leslie washes his hair with Paul Penders Time-Release Jasmine Shampoo, and as a conditioner, Paul Penders Herbal Lemon Conditioner is used. This, in combination, is the best thinkable preparation for Leslie’s hair before a swim in the salty water and the following exposure to the sun.
As follow-up treatment of the hair, Paul Penders Holy Basil Conditioning Scalp Toner is used for a period after the race. This is to ensure the correct nutrient intake, and to balance the sebum production, as well as to prevent dandruff, and to repair any damaged hair.

This is how you look after 2.4 miles (3.9 km) of swimming, 112 miles (180 km) of biking, and 26.2 miles (42.2 km) of running – all in 13 hrs 17 min and 22 sec

Finally, after each training session – and there have been a lot of them – before resting, Leslie has used Paul Penders Ceramide Recovery Lipo A, C & E , which is a natural skin rescue treatment that helps retexture the skin’s surface, gives a smoother appearance, and has an immediate firming effect.
Leslie might not win the race, but he will for sure be one of the best protected and well prepared contestants when it comes to personal hair and skincare.
Let us finish off with a few facts about Langkawi Ironman:
This year, Langkawi Ironman has 736 participants from 41 countries (as of 15 February).
There will be more than 1.500 volunteers to help out during the race.
A brisk 20 minutes walk during the day will make you sweaty. Imagine, how more than 13 hours of swimming, biking and running will make you feel…
Leslie will be able to tell. And he will certainly share his experiences during the race with us in an interview on the blog next week.
Only one thing remains, and that is to say: Leslie, all of us from Paul Penders Co are full of admiration for what you are doing, and we wish you all the best on Saturday.
