The annual seal slaughter starts soon

The animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has just launch a year-long campaign against the annual slaughter of seals for their skins.

More than 205,000 seals were killed in last year’s month-long slaughter alone. These animals, who are often just weeks old and have not even taken their first swim, have their skulls smashed in or are shot. Then they are skinned for their fur. The seals, who are often still conscious, are dragged across the ice floes with hakapiks, and many are skinned alive on the ice. This horrifying slaughter of seals is scheduled to start again very soon!

This year PETA is especially targeting their campaign against the Vancouver Olympic Organization Committee, since the Winter Olympics next year will be held in Vancouver, Canada.

The campaign was launched at news conferences in Vancouver and cities all over the world on Wednesday.

Canada is by far the country where most seals are hunted. But also countries like Greenland, Namibia, Russia and Norway take part.

The connection between seal slaughter and a blog for natural organic health care products may not seem clear, but it becomes obvious when it is mentioned that Paul Penders has always been a avid opponent of any kind of cruelty to animals. Not a single Paul Penders product has ever been tested on animals.

Despite of the seal hunting season kicking off in a few weeks, there may be light at the end of the tunnel, though. On Wednesday, The Canadian newspaper “The Globe and Mail” reported that “Russia is moving to end its seal hunt, with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin calling it a “bloody industry.” The decision comes as the European Union edges toward banning the trans-shipment of seal products, a move that could stop the Atlantic seal hunt for good. In recent weeks, Russia has stopped the killing of white coats, the youngest seals, and has now pledged to protect older seals as well, though it did not give a time line.

At Paul Penders we strongly support any initiative taken to stop this merciless seal slaughter. We will at any time fight for the rights of the animals, as well as we are leading a daily fight to avoid chemicals being added to your personal health care products.

New Study Confirms Superiority of Ceramide-Based Products

A type of organic compound that lies within the stratum corneum layer of the skin, ceramides, helps prevent loss of moisture.

When ceramide levels in skin decline, water evaporates more quickly and skin becomes dry.

According to a research study published in Skin & Aging Magazine, products that contain ceramides can help rejuvenate the skin to a far greater extent than products containing other types of emollients.

The study included participants between the ages of 18 and 60 who were treated with a ceramide-based emollient on one half of their face and a petrolatum emollient on the other half.

Ceramides continue to be a key special ingredient in Paul Penders skincare products.

Photo shoot with Katja

Paul Penders - The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & SpaOn Friday, Nash, Katja and I went to The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa for a photo shoot. Known as the greenest resort in Malaysia, The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa provided us an ideal place for the photo session as there were lush greens and the resort was located on a stretch of soft golden sand along Pantai Tengah.

Paul Penders - PP ProductFirstly, we started the session by taking some initial shots to test the lighting as it was 4.30pm and the sun was still hanging scorchingly in the sky. We took advantage of the plants and flowers in the resort, and we tried to blend in the main model with the natural environment. Photos of Katja and Paul Penders products were taken by using the natural environment as a backdrop.

Although it started out with a little awkwardness, Katja’s pleasant and bubbly character warmed things up and we got along easily. Her humor made us laugh and we gradually felt more relaxed and comfortable while working. It was fun to have her as the model.

We finished the first photo shoot before the sun set. Before bidding Katja goodbye, we planned out the next photo session that we looked forward to.

Coconut Water Information
Compiled by John Kohler

For thousands of years, coconut water has been used for remedial and cosmetic properties in southeast Asia because it is rich in lipids, lauric acid and glucids as well as vitamins, nutrients and minerals.

Did you know that all Paul Penders skin and body care products are now made with coconut water? As coconut water regenerates, revitalizes, moisturizes and softens the skin, women in Langkawi have used fresh coconut water to cleanse their faces and coconut fruit in moisturizers that keep them looking youthful for generations.

Dr palani (Source: http://ecohealingsystem.blogspot.com)Dr.V.M Palaniappan, Ph.D., a former associate professor of ecology at Universiti Malaya who has written several books on a holistic therapy system called, ‘Ecological Healing System’.

You can read more from his blog.

As we all know, there is a global outbreak of  influenza A virus subtype H1N1 since April 2009, commonly called “Swine Flu”. According to Dr. Palaniappan’s 33 years of research, he stated that high acidity in the body could result in the loss of immunity, hence making people more vulnerable to viral diseases like Influenza A (H1N1).

In order to prevent H1N1, Dr. Palaniappan recommends to consume alkaline food and beverages that can help neutralize the excessive acidity in the body.

He suggests coconut water, which is alkaline and it can be used as a herbal medicine to prevent H1N1. For example, he advised those who felt feverish and experienced a burning sensation while urinating because of excessive acid in the body, to neutralize it by drinking coconut water, twice a day, for three days.

Besides watching your diet, physical exercises should also be taken into account. He said that too much physical activity such as marathon should be avoided because it released acid due to excessive metabolic activity.

In addition, he also stressed that insufficient sleep and overwork without adequate rest could also increase the body acidity, which consequently decreased immunity and made the body susceptible to viral attacks.

It is clear that coconut water not only promotes overall health, but also makes your skin look younger. It’s organic and beneficial. Why don’t you start including coconut water in your daily meals too?

Blog Meeting

Paul Penders - Friday MeetingLast Friday, everyone was asked to attend a meeting at Paul Penders office. This time, most of the Penders from Langkawi Office were there: Paul, Yvonne, Dr. Gatot, Hong, Jarina, Azizah and of course, don’t forget Steen, the new blog writer.

The meeting was mainly about Paul Penders blog which Paul attaches a lot of importance to. It’s an essential medium to spread messages across the globe…it’s the  heart of Paul Penders Co. that gives a feel of who we are.

Everyone was actively participating in the brainstorming session. Not only a list of blog ideas was produces, but also opinions on the products were heard from the members.

Some of the new blog ideas included Jenny, the owner of Alun-alun Spa, who has three great spas in Langkawi and uses special products made by Paul Penders, Yvonne’s recent experiences of working with Paul Penders, and Paul Penders China.

Azizah, who is an active user of Paul Penders products gave us her honest opinions on a few of the skin care. She emphasized that everyone had different skin type. Some with dry skin, some with oily skin and some with a combination of different skin types.

Azizah personally liked the Herbal Moist Soap and the Rosemary & Calendula Cleansing Milk. She said that the soap made her skin feel moist and it could also be used on face. Although the cleansing milk wasn’t really suitable for her skin type, she liked it because she felt refreshed after use. Therefore, she suggested that consumers with oily skin should avoid Rosemary & Calendula Cleansing Milk and opt for Alpinia & Teatree Cleansing Wash instead.

The best thing is that every member in Paul Penders Co. has the privilege to have a set of Paul Penders skin care products for free! Since everyone has different skin type, each user would have different opinions on the products. The purpose of this project is to obtain everyone’s opinions from their personal experiences.

The meeting ended after about two hours. We even had lunch in the meeting room! Although we’re working, we work as a family and that’s why there’re no tense moments when we are together.
