Iron Ladies

My daughter and I met a wonderful lady several months ago in The Netherlands, when she flew out from Dublin to Amsterdam. She is a beautiful person... well actually a 'tough lady' indeed. A lady of Word & Trust & Confidence. What she says she does and I love that. She has a pharmaceutical company in Ireland and is going to carry Paul Penders products in the Republic of Ireland by early next year.
Tough ladies....
Same way like our very loyal and inspirational UK distributor for almost 7 years Amanda of The Natural Skincare Company.... let's call them Iron Ladies..... well... don't we NEED iron ladies in this world? How about Marj of our great US distribution company in Arizona? AllNaturalCosmetics? And Maryam from our new U.S. distribution company out of California? But hey, we have also great iron ladies working very, very hard at our very active distributor in Malaysia who also operates no less than 5 Paul Penders organic beauty salons in Kuala Lumpur as well.... - yes.. LeeBooi is an iron lady too; I love each and every one of them.
We as a company feel so proud and most of all - fortunate - to work with them. Another one is Mariek in Holland; I have deeply respect for her. And Bee in Australia; a gem... when she writes me - her words are like magic and full of love. Of course, there is Alison - a journalist in Philadelphia, USA - who for 5 years writes Paul Penders monthly newsletters.... and Kamila Delart, shown in the photo at right, who writes inspiring articles about Malaysia's spas and wellness centers...I can go on and on. And when I forget to mention any of these ladies... well the word already mentions it.... IRON LADY... for sure I will hear of them!!
Of course, we have our own iron ladies at the offices of Paul Penders Company in Penang and Langkawi rainforest islands in Malaysia and all of them support all of you, and of course, always support Bastiaan, Idris and me as well. We are deeply thankful for all the support of all iron ladies that diligently and caringly work to a further expansion of our natural botanical cosmetics made with the best organic ingredients we can get!
Malaysian Healing Heritage

It is no coincidence that 'Ishan Malaysian Spa' is the first one I choose to visit when starting my 'Langkawi Spa Guide' project. Built eight years ago, it was the very first stand-alone spa on the island - a product of love and vision of the owner, Baskaran Kosthi.
With a doctorate in naturopathy, and a passion for the Malaysian healing tradition, he followed his dream of creating a truly authentic Malaysian spa, allowing visitors to Langkawi to experience the exciting blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian traditional treatments.
The sun is slowly setting in when I walk up the hill towards the wooden Malay huts tucked away in the wild foliage of the rainforest. Unpretentious, blending in the natural surroundings, and in the twilight a little mysterious, the unspoken promise of feeling the indigenous healing spirit seems within reach...
Comfortably seated, I'm savoring the freshly prepared lime juice, and enjoy the refreshing breeze blowing softly through the window from the near Andaman Sea as I go through the Spa Menu. It is not easy to select from the variety of treatments offered, but I finally settle on a 'Black rice body scrub', followed by 'Herbal body wrap' and the exotic 'Bamboo massage'.
My therapist, Azian, leads me with a smile to one of the cosy treatment rooms, explaining that the black rice incorporated in my first treatment will not only slough away dead skin cells, but packed with healthy fibre, also nourish my skin with powerful vitamins and antioxidants.
Gently rubbing in circular motion the scrub blend all over my body, I feel as if it's more than just the dead skin she is liberating me from. And then comes the warm herbal body wrap. Containing fresh turmeric, lemongrass, ginger, sandalwood powder, turnip, pandan leaves and kaffir lime, it promises to ease my sore muscles, help my body to get rid of accumulated toxins, and moisturize and whiten my skin that has been exposed to sun for a little too long over the last few days.
Lying covered with huge banana leaves, I'm listening to the soothing sound of water trickling from a small fountain, inhale the scent of lemon grass that is said to open a person up, and wait for the healing properties of the exquisite ingredients to unfold.
However the best part is yet to come. A huge fan of unique massage treatments, I cannot wait for my Bamboo experience to begin! Strong and smooth, the bamboo stick slowly roles along my aching muscles, effortlessly adjusting to my body contours.
Rotating around its own axis, and following a fan-like motion when working on my tense shoulders, it reaches even the most deeply seated knots. With the walls of the bamboo being covered with silica, the tiny crystal-like matrixes get activated through the friction, creating a unique tingling sensation as they release their subtle yet powerful energy.
At some point, I feel the loving touch of Azian's hands. But with my eyes closed, and my mind drifting off as my body reaches a deep state of relaxation, I lose track of the seamless transition from hands to bamboo and back again...
When I find myself back in the airy lounge area sipping an aromatic concoction of fresh ginger, coriander seeds and pandan leaves, I feel as if something deep inside me has changed. Wondering whether the virtues of the bamboo that symbolizes strength, suppleness, youth, and inner peace have found a way to enter my very soul...
One Of My Teachers In Life

Few years ago I came to the office and at the shipping department I noticed a new employee. I noticed because her son was with her. One of the policies of Paul Penders Co is that children from employees can be at the office as well - why not? - is it not OK to hear a child laughing or crying? How much more human can that sound be also in a work place?
And every time I came to work she was working at the QC department, always quite, concentrated on her work and always busy. She got her work done in time and I was amazed with the peace surrounded her even with her small child nearby. I felt I could be in such serene peace at all times.
Because of her work and great attitude, bit by bit the company increased her responsibilities. From QC department she then became even involved upstairs in administrative tasks. I kept feeling amazed how peaceful she did her work.
Then to my great surprise she wrote 2 wonderful blog stories for our company about Malaysian food. It was written such nice and - same like all her work at the company - it was done right. The story could be published almost immediately, what has been done as well.
She had been with us for almost 1 1/2 years, but then, this year the company was split up with an office opened at another island nearby, Penang. Paul Penders R&D, marketing and QC went to Penang Island, and the warehouse that was located at another part in Malaysia went to Penang as well; therefore everything centralized. For that we could not offer her a job anymore and she and the company departed. She left the company at the same way, in peace.
But I was shocked to hear about the sudden illness of Lilly. It was told that she was diagnosed with cancer and meanwhile even got into chemotherapy and maybe soon radiation. I visited Lilly last night and she told me that the chemo therapy treatments were so painful, almost to her passing out. Lilly calm and beautiful as always kept being peace and a warm smile.
I was touched with this visit and again with her personality. I pray for Light and Healing for this beautiful spirit, a young mother who still must deserve the best in life. Of course the company takes care of her expenses. Last night when visiting Lilly, upon me leaving, walking to my car, she came up and walked to my car. She smiled and her son and husband; a coast guard officer in Malaysia, staying at the background.
This young women full of courage coming from a very small village at this rainforest island at the other side of the world, is one of my life's teachers. Lily is in our hearts.
Bismuth Oxychloride..? Hmmm.. Isn't That A Synthetic?!

More people today choose to be "as natural as possible" which is a worthwhile, however, in some cases consumers may be finding themselves at crossroads to use natural organic color cosmetics with an ingredients deemed to be "unnatural" and "unsafe". Nevertheless, these products are still considered "certified organic" guaranteed by certifiers like Ecocert and others.
One of these ingredients is bismuth oxychloride; a chemical compound that is is found as a harmless ingredient in a variety of color cosmetics.
Bismuth oxychloride is a synthetically-prepared powder created from bismuth, oxygen and chlorine that is used in color cosmetics because of its abilities to create a white pigment, shimmery look, and silky feel in addition to its exceptional ability to adhere to the skin. Although it is synthetically prepared, bismuth oxychloride is derived from natural elements.
A concern touted by opponents of bismuth oxychloride is that the Material Safety Data Sheets mention that it can cause irritation. But mica and other compounds found in color cosmetics are also known to be able to cause irritation in very few cases. Just because a very small group of people have a mild reaction to a compound does not mean it should be outlawed.
As it is approved by the FDA and in EU, consumers will most likely continue to see bismuth oxychloride on the list of ingredients found on many natural and organic makeup product labels.
Consumers can confidently purchase natural and organic color cosmetics containing bismuth oxychloride, knowing that it is a perfect and preferred ingredient by a number of famous makeup artists and cosmetic chemists due to its numerous positive attributes. More importantly, it is perfect safe ingredient as well.
